My career has transformed many times throughout my employment. My first career was in marketing research. Then I joined a Fortune 500 telecommunications company. It was there that I truly experienced a culture of career mobility. I started in the forecasting department projecting telephone line growth. From there I was offered opportunities in product development, product management, account management, operations planning, and finally business marketing. It didn't matter that I lacked experience in each of these areas. I was known as a high-performance continuous learner.
I took a side turn when I left Verizon. I learned so much about corporate strategy that I realized I could coach small businesses on how to run their company better. I purchased a Growth Coach franchise in South Texas and went to work. I also became certified in Human Resources, and in Social and Emotional Intelligence coaching. Not only did I coach business owners, but I also developed their staff.
After about eight years, I longed to return to the complexity of corporate America. But first, I needed to transform once again by completing a master's degree in Organizational Development and Leadership. Then, I joined my current employer, a Fortune 500 financial services firm in 2015 as a VP of Talent Development in Enterprise Operations and Technology. I became passionate about Change Management and completed the Prosci Change Practioner certification in 2021.
Two years ago, I began leading a career development program helping Operations and Technology employees navigate the company's internal mobility process. Since then I have dedicated my time and effort to researching the topic. As result, I continued to enhance the program and last year, over 30% of the participants were promoted! I realize how important career mobility is for both employees and employers. There is so much more to be done. I am on a zealous mission to spread the what, the why, and the how.
